Motorola Walkie Talkie - So Small and Yet So Indispensable
Here’s a story that proves the fact that one cannot live without a walky talky:
A few years ago my an my husband decided to move from the Midwest to the east coast and we found out quickly that we had a huge problem. It was simply impossible for us to drag all our stuff halfway across the country with U-haul. We had accumulated so much stuff in five years in Nebraska, that it’ll take us a lifetime to move from one place to the other. Like this was not enough …another problem showed up: we also had two cars so we decided that one of us would drive a car, and the other would drive the U-haul with the other car hitched to a tow hookup on the back of it. In order to keep in touch one with another during this adventure we decided to purchase a set of Motorola walkie talkies that would help us on the road.
Firstly we used them as a sort of safety measure. Should something happen to one of us or should we pull over, we used our walkie talkie to let the other know about was going on. So we didn’t use our Motorola walkie talkies just for safety, we also used them for fun, to bring some good spirits, to make the boredom go away. Most importantly we used them to have conversations while driving through ridiculously huge states with no good radio stations (Iowa would be the most appropriate example in this respect!).
After some time the Motorola walkie talkies seem to me as a means to let my husband know about our status. I would tell him how the U-Haul looked from behind, I let him know about the temperature inside my car. I also alerted him to change the radio frequency so as to listen to some good music. Sometimes the cat that we have with us “said” something when we held the walkie talkie up to the cat carrier. What I’m actually trying to emphasize is how boring would be to make a trip with only a cat in your car and especially with no walkie talkie. That’s why we were so happy for our Motorola walkie talkies.
Nevertheless we never used our walkie talkies again after completing the move. And I’d almost forgotten about them until recently when I came across them my basement while I was preparing for a yard sale. It came to my mind to keep them as we could never know when they would be useful again. Since we have a four-story house we might use them to keep in touch with each other when we’re both on different floors. Lately we purchased an intercom system so the walkie talkie aren’t so necessary anymore. Said and done … we made the decision to try to sell them at our yard sale for only five bucks. The good thing about it is that each person who looked at them had to listen up my long description of how great and suitable this gadget could be especially when taking long trips.
